Alliance for Democracy(AFORD), one of the Opposition parties in Malawi represented in Parliament, has turned to the Church of Central Africa Presybetarian,Livingstonia Synod for mediation.
AFORD has for the past five years been split in two groups each claiming to be a legitimate party.
Gneral Secretary of the Livingstonia Synod Reverend Matiya Nkhoma confirmed in an interview that the splinter groups had contacted his church for reconciliation.
He said his church is ready to help them become one group.
AFORD is most popular in the Northern region of Malawi where the leader of the group DR. Chakufwa Chihana came from.
Dr. Chihana ,who died last year, fought for democracy in Malawi by challenging Dr. Kamuzu Banda who ruled the country with iron fists for 30 years.
Dr. Chihana, however, failed to win the 2004 Presidential electicons and joined government as a Second Vice President.
It is at this time that other groups who opposed him entering government formed a splinter group.
