Orissa might experience acute water shortage this summer

 Various townships of Orissa have already begun to reel under water crisis due to summer. As summer has just stepped in, another three months of severe water crisis is expected.

There are towns which have major areas disconnected from public water connection. The wells and bore wells get dried up as temperature keeps soaring. This year, an unusually hot summer is anticipated due to global warming and fast depletion of forest areas.

Over the years, Bhubaneswar-the capital city of Orissa has seen unprecedented cutting of trees due to expansion of roads and concrete jungle. The greenery, which was earlier visible as an attraction to tourists from world has now been placed under oblivion.

Once upon a time, people from outside used to watch the lush greenery when they went to the top of Dhauli-giri, where ancient Buddhist temple is located near Bhubaneswar. Now that green is replaced with a sight of concrete jungle. The historical sights have now been surrounded with innumerable constructions, virtually hidden from public viewing.

The present government has implemented a new public transportation system, facilitating commuting for which inflow of people to Bhubaneswar has gone up manifold. Bhubaneswar Development authority (BDA) does not have provisions for ensuring water supply to all living in the city.
