On Saturday, Ottavio Quattrocchi, the Italian businessman died of a heart attack in Milan, Italy.
On Sunday, Bharatiya Janata Party said that the Congress party must not think that the death of Ottavio Quattrocchi, the Italian businessman will lead to the death of the case.
BJP spokesperson Vijay Sonkar Shastri told media that the Bofors scam is a big blemish on the country and will not end with the death of the main accused in the Bofors. The CBI is yet to give a clean chit to Quattrocchi till date as he purportedly acted as a channel in the swindle which caused great harm to the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi in the 1989 elections—which he lost.
Ottavio Quattrocchi left India in 1993 to avoid being arrested.
However, the case was closed by the Central Bureau of Investigation in 2011 with no person still being sentenced in the Bofors scam.
Quattrocchi always upheld that he was an intermediary and he got this deal done and he was paid for it.But for whom did Quattrocchi take the money as bribe? The court has decided that he did not have any link with the Indira Gandhi family. But, this Italian businessman was also said to be close to the Nehru- Gandhi family which made him as a power broker between New Delhi and international businesses for big deals. He represented Italian petrochemicals firm Snamprogetti and was the prime accused in the Bofors scandal.
And one of the prime accused in the scam, Ottavio Quattrocchi, His funeral will take place on Monday.
