A friend invited me to go with her to the CitySkate ice rink in Downtown Phoenix over the weekend. There we enjoyed a pleasant time together watching people skate on ice.
It sort of reminded me of when I was a kid growing up in Kansas and we would skate the frozen ponds and lakes during the wintertime, much to the dismay of our worried parents…
Only there we had to be concerned about the condition of the ice, the temperature and in some spots at least we had to avoiding falling through the ice into the freezing water.
Needless to say we have come a long way since then.
In this case the ice temperature of the rink is control and monitored at all times by a technician and the ice is inspected by specially trained safety instructors to be free of any physical hazards whatsoever.
Its also perfectly level with no pits or cracks.
The temperature of the ice also remains at a constant temperature below freezing providing for optimal conditions for skaters.
There are at least two trained staff members inside the rink to insure the safety of the public during hours of operation. There job basically is to make sure every stays safe so nobody get hurt out on the ice.
Skates are available in all sizes for a rental fee which is included in the price of your admission. Staff stress the importance of ensuring safety by being properly outfitted with the right size skates.
Security is also provided here to insure public safety.
All you have to worry about is having fun.
For the children ice skating is not only a health outdoor activity but really helps them develop stamina, pose and balance. We saw this demonstrated time and again as parents were teaching their young children how to ice skate. More importantly it is a time when the whole family can get together and spend quality time with one another.
Its also conveniently located in the heart of the Valley of the Sun – near one north central avenue in downtown Phoenix, Arizona.
In talking with the staff it was pointed out that the CitySkate Ice Rink “is the largest and only real outdoor ice rink in the Valley.”
I can honestly say we had a good time here and would highly recommend it if your family enjoys ice skating and being outside.
It will be in operation until February 1, 2015, when workers will come in and completely dismantle the rink and reopen the street for traffic.
