Kabul: The US-led Coalition Forces in Afghanistan have claimed that they with the joint efforts with Afghan National Security Forces have killed over 80 Taliban insurgents in Musa Qila Wadi of southern Helmand province on Saturday.
‘The combined force was conducting a reconnaissance patrol when Taliban fighters engaged them with rocket and small arms fire. The combined patrol immediately returned fire, maneuvered, and employed close air support resulting in almost seven dozen Taliban fighters killed during a six hour engagement. During the battle, the combined force exchanged small arms fire with the fleeing attackers, quickly putting them on the defensive’ said a statement issued by Coalition Forces.
Musa Qila is a district where the insurgents were once in full control for more than one year. It is believed that most of the insurgents’ top leaders also belong to this region. They often ambush and attack on combined forces.
The Taliban have yet not confirmed killing their men in this fighting.
In neighboring province Kandahar, officials have claimed arresting of three suicide attackers who, according to the officials, belong to Peshawar, Pakistan.
