Prodigious photorealistic painter Ben Weiner unveiled his most ambitious work to date last week, at a private showing for friends and colleagues in his Long Island City studio.
The work, titled ‘Pink Hair Gel’ stretched an impressive 16-feet wide, and was bound for Los Angeles the next morning. Pink Hair Gell was created as a commission for a private collector in Beverly Hills, California. It builds on Ben Weiner’s unlikely theme of hair gel as still life, magnified to impossible proportions.
The oil painting took five months to complete, and Weiner joked that he would struggle to overcome his ‘separation anxiety’ when it left his workspace.
Ben Weiner is represented by the Michael Moore Gallery in Santa Monica, CA and was featured in respected industry publication New American Paintings in 2005.
I went to high school with Ben, and am pretty in awe of his success.
