Pakistani troops Wednesday violated a 2003 ceasefire agreement and fired at Indian positions near the Line of Control (LoC) that divides Jammu and Kashmir between the two countries, a military spokesperson said.
Terming it the first breach of the bilateral ceasefire that came into effect in December 2003, Lt Col AK Mathur said the incident took place in the Tangdhar sector of the LoC in north Kashmir Tuesday night. India, he said, had lodged a strong protest with Pakistan.
"Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing at our posts," the spokesman said.
He said there were no casualties on the Indian side. "They fired scores of rounds. However, we did not retaliate."
The Indian Army has now requested the Pakistan Army for a flag meeting "to resolve the matter".
