Jammu, September 24 (Scoop News)-Describing it as a Pakistan conspiracy in Gilgit-Baltistan, BJP state Chief Spokesperson & National Executive Member Dr. Jitendra Singh has termed the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) resolution demanding provincial status for the region as an Islamabad design to achieve twin objectives of usurping constitutional status of Gilgit-Baltistan and at the same time compromising India’s legitimate claim over the region.
Addressing a press conference at BJP headquarter here today, Dr. Jitendra Singh alleged that the resolution was adopted by Gilgit Assembly at the behest of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Govt. in Pakistan and it is not only a violation of all democratic and diplomatic norms but infact contrary to the spirit of Pakistan constitution itself which has since accepted Gilgit-Baltistan not as a part of Pakistan but a part of Jammu & Kashmir. He said that Gilgit-Baltistan is an integral part of the state of Jammu & Kashmir and thereby an integral part of India.
What is significant, according to Dr. Jitendra Singh, is the fact that local leaders and people of Gilgit-Baltistan are also not in favour of this resolution which they perceive as a ploy to perpetuate Pakistan rule in the region. He also referred to Gilgit-Baltistan (Empowerment and Self Governance) Order signed by President Zardari on September 7 which makes provision for a cosmetic Chief Minister elected by Gilgit Assembly but the real power will lie with the Governor who will be an appointee of the President of Pakistan.
Dr. Jitendra Singh referred to BJP State Executive Resolution of April 28, 2012 which proposed that “the Govt. of India must immediately intervene to check Human Rights violations in Northern Areas of Gilgit-Baltistan and the Union External Affairs Ministry must take up with Pakistan the unauthorized Chinese intrusion in the region”. He alleged that the Congress-led UPA government has failed to take any steps to uphold the territorial integrity of the region despite the 1994 unanimous resolution of parliament. The BJP will take up the issue at every appropriate forum and continue its crusade for democratic rights of the people of Gilgit-Baltistan and for the liberation of the region from illegal occupation of Pakistan, he added.
BJP State Press Secretary Balbir Ram was also present in the press confere nce.
