The nine dead were five civilians and four soldiers. Over 20 people were injured in the attack on Swat valley’s Mingora area. Pakistan’s military have been battling Islamic militants in the Swat valley.
This suicide bomb attack took place at the same place where Pakistani forces had launched an offensive against Islamic militants back in October. On Friday, over 50 people died in a suicide attack near Peshawar.
The suicide bomber was in a vehicle that blew up which was close to the convoy according to a statement released by the army. Pakistan’s offensive targets Maulana Fazalullah, a hard line cleric who is trying to bring Taliban-style laws of Islam to the Swat valley.
Before Sunday’s attack, the army said to have captured and detains four of Fazalullah’s followers.
Most of the violence of the country comes from the northwestern part of Pakistan. The violence is mainly caused by the ousted militants of the Red Mosque. Pakistan is set for a general election next month.
Recently, the state of emergency has been lifted by President Pervez Musharraf.
