Pakistan has decided to support private armies [Tribal Lashkars] against Talibans to defeat them and restoration of the writ of the state in remote bordering areas with Afghanistan in northwest province.
Last week, the army Chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani hinted a major shift in the official military doctrine of Pakistan, when he met local tribal elders and declared that army will join hand with loyal tribals to crush militancy in troubled northwest province. Saturday evening, General Kayani met President Asif Zardari and Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gillani at president house and reviewed the security situation of troubled northwest province. General Kayani informed them about the cooperation strategy between army and pro-Pakistan tribes.
An Islamabad based defence analyst requesting not to quoted, however said “It will be again the repeating of mistakes to counter Talibans (by local tribals), as our military great brains did to support Taliban to defeat war lords after the withdrawal of Soviet Red Army from Afghanistan for ending the long time anarchy in the recent past.”
Later on Asfandyar wali also joined the meeting and informed the participants, the first hand details about the suicide blast in which he was saved by his gunman who sacrificed his life on Friday at his native residence near Peshawar. President Zardari termed the suicide attack as conspiracy against the popular leadership of the country and vowed to continue cleansing operations till the complete defeat of the terrorists. On the invitation of President Zardari, Asfandyar has been shifted to the president house as a precautionary measure. He will stay with the President of Pakistan.
