Earlier today, Democratic Presidential nominee Senator Barack Obama of Illinois had attacked the healthcare plan of GOP Presidential nominee Senator John McCain of Arizona. Obama had called McCain’s healthcare plan as “radical.” He had some very interesting criticisms towards McCain’s healthcare plan.
Coincidentally in retaliation, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the vice-presidential running-mate to McCain, attacked Obama for “terrorist ties.” Yes, Palin is linking Obama to terrorists. This time, Palin is linking Obama to domestic terrorists. She brought up Obama’s ties with William Ayers, who founded the radical anti-war group known as the Weather Underground.
Palin was at a fundraiser when she made that criticism. In her attack against Obama, Palin said that he is not a person that sees American as she and the rest of “us,” the greatest force of good on the globe.
She said: “This is someone who sees American as imperfect enough to pal around with terrorists who targeted their own country.”
Palin used an article from the New York Times about the relationship between Obama and Ayers. However, the article further explains that the neither Obama nor Ayers were close with each other. It added that Obama never expressed any support or sympathy towards the views of the Weather Underground.
The relationship between Obama and Ayers was shot down by several other news outlets as well.
The Obama camp accused the McCain camp of using Swift-Boat tactics. Overall, it said that this attack is not going to work. It also attacked McCain and Palin for wasting their time trying to attack Obama instead of focusing on other major things such as the country’s economy.
So far, McCain’s campaign had taken major damage in regards to the economy and the financial crisis.
On the day before the first US Presidential debates took place, Obama and McCain had flown to Washington DC to meet with current United States President George W. Bush in regards to the $700 billion bailout of Wall Street. But, the talks ended with no deal reached.
Connecticut Senator and former Democratic hopeful Chris Dodd said McCain did not show any signs of supporting any of the plans in regards to the proposal. Also, it was revealed that a majority of the House Republicans were not warm to the plan. On that same day, Obama said that neither he nor McCain should be active in the negotiations. He said that would be a problem if presidential politics was implemented.
The House would vote on the bill. However, it did not pass through the House. McCain criticized Obama for not being active in the negotiations. He blamed Obama and his allies for the proposal’s failure to pass. But, it was a majority of the House Republicans that voted against it.
In a sense, it is not surprising for Obama’s connections to be brought up. Recently, it was announced that an anti-Obama ad would be launched on Election Day. This ad would bring up Obama’s ties with Ayers, Reverend Jeremiah Wright, and Tony Rezko.
However, it is unknown how much effect Palin’s attack on Obama will have.
