Days before the first United States vice-presidential debate is set to take place, Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, the VP running mate to GOP presidential nominee Sen. John McCain of Arizona, compared herself to the VP running mate of Democratic presidential nominee Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois, Sen. Joe Biden of Delaware. Palin had some interesting things to say about Biden.
While talking to CBS anchorwoman Katie Couric, Palin said that the words she used about Biden were not negative at all. She said that Biden had a lot of experience during his time in the United States Senate. Palin said that she looks forward to meeting Biden. So far, she has never met him face-to-face.
“He’s got a tremendous amount of experience and, you know, I’m the new energy, the new face, the new ideas and he’s got the experience based on many, many years in the Senate and voters are gonna have a choice there of what it is that they want these next four years,” Palin had said to Couric.
The words that Palin said are similar to what Democratic Senator Hillary Clinton of New York said; but, in the opposite sense. During the heated Democratic contest, Clinton touted her own experience over that of Obama. At the same time, many have called Obama the new energy.
Back then, it was Clinton’s experience over Obama’s young energy. Clinton made attacks on Obama’s inexperience. McCain made attacks on Obama’s inexperience. During the first US presidential debate, McCain called Obama “naïve” in several instances.
In this regard, it is the new face of Palin over Biden’s years of experience. Palin had called herself the new face and the new energy in regards to the US presidential race. Who knows how far Palin will get by calling herself the new energy and the new face?
Possibly, we can expect the VP debate between Palin and Biden to be interesting. Hopefully, it will be more exciting than the debate between McCain and Obama.
