With players like Mitt Romney and Tim Pawlenty at the top of the list, the McCain campaign decided to go with the dark horse. Alaska governor Sarah Palin will be announced as John McCain´s running mate in Dayton, Ohio at noon ET.
According to CBS News and MSNBC, Palin became the first female vice presidential candidate or the GOP. She becomes the first one since Geraldine Ferraro back in 1984.
Palin, 44, was appointed to the become governor of Alaska in 2006 in one of the biggest upsets in that state ever. She was the youngest governor to ever be elected into office. She was also the first governor to be born after the state of Alaska obtained statehood back in 1959. She earned a degree in journalism at the University of Idaho. She is a mother of five and her husband is a higher-up at British Petroleum.
Political Standing
Palin is a life-time member of the NRA, pro-life, and opposes same-sex marriage (although she has said before that she has gay friends). Her poitical platforms were successful due to her emphasis on reducing wasteful spending as well as transportation, education, and public safety.
