Srinagar, October 16 (Scoop News) – Lashing out at the parties trying to divert the attention of people by opposing the proposed Panchayati elections, the Minister for Rural Development and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar has said the basic motive of holding the same is the empowerment of the people at the grass root level, so that they can effectively contribute their mite in policy formulation and implementation to mitigate day-to-day problems of people living in rural areas.
The Minister was speaking at a Maha Gram Sabha at Baramulla today.
Minister for Agriculture G.H. Mir, Minister for PHE and Irrigation, Taj- Mohi-ud-Din, Minister of State for Agriculture, Javaid Ahmed Dar, MLA Sopore, Mohammad Ashraf Ganai, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Bashir Ahmed Bhat, Director Rural Development Department Kashmir, besides, large number of representatives of various villages of Baramulla district attended the Maha Sabha.
Sagar said that the Panchayati elections are very essential for the speedy and sustained development of the rural areas which constitute a major part of the state. He said that by putting in place Panchayats we would be getting additional developmental funds from Centre which would further accelerate the development in a proper manner.
While calling for introspection, the Minister said that we have to ensure that the fruits of these developmental flagship schemes percolates to the ground level so that the effect is felt by the targeted populace which will contribute in changing the socio-economic set up of the people living in rural areas.
Equating transparency as an important parameter in ensuring the benefit of these schemes reaches the needy, Sagar said that an effective mechanism has been put in place to ensure the same and action has also been initiated against some erring officials.
Describing MGNERGA as a revolutionary scheme, which has been instrumental in changing the socio-economic landscape of different states across the country, the Minister said that the employment generation is one of the important parameters of the same and if implemented properly we can provide much needed employment to the masses.
Sagar said that administration has been directed to address the problems of the people on priority. He said 5 developmental works will be taken up in every village under MGNERGA for faster development of the rural areas.
Earlier, Deputy Commissioner, Baramulla informed that Rs.31 crore are being utilized under MGNERGA in the district. He said 9 lakh mandays were generated by the execution of various development schemes in the district so far.
