Pandemonium broke in the Malawi Parliament few days ago when the Speaker of Parliament Louis Chimango could not declare seats of some Members of Parliament(MPs) vacant after the ruling of the Supreme Court two weeks ago.
The Supreme Court ruled that MPs who join other parties cross the floor.
The leader of the opposition Hon John Tembo wanted the Speaker to deal with the issue of crossing the floor before attending to the national budget that was presented to Parliament few days earlier.
However ,the Speaker said he could not deal with the issue of crossing the floor because the concerned members had gone to court earlier and succeded in taking the court injuction restraining the Speaker to declare their seats vacant until the lower court ruled .
One of the leaders of the opposition Hon Dr. Nga Mtafu rose up and called the Speaker stupid.
Thereafater there was bitter exchange of words until the Speaker adjourned the proceedings until the court ruled on the issue.
As the story was being compiled the court had ruled that both sides should be heard before he could rule on the issue.
