35 notables of Samba District were also honoured belonging to different disciplines of life, defence, culture, arts, education, social service and politics. The richest tributes were paid to Shri K.S. Madhukar, the leading national poet in Dogri, Pt. Prem Nath Dogra, the founder of Praja Parishad and a great secularist, Brig. Rajinder Singh (Maha Veer Chakra), Shri Mulkh Raj Saraf, the first person to start newspaper in 1923 in J&K, Ustad Allah Rakha and his son Ustad Zakir Hussein, a revolutionary Shri Ram Piara Saraf, General Khajoor Singh, Lt.Col. Narayan Singh, OBE (Order of British Empire), Tara Smailpuri and others who were born in Samba District. Several other social and political activists were also honoured.

Meanwhile Prof. Bhim Singh, Supremo of the J&K National Panthers Party is re-elected unanimously as Chairman of the Party for three years term. Nearly 12000 delegates and 8000 party activists raised their hands in support of the resolution moved by Panthers Party State President, Mr. Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA moved the motion to elect Prof. Bhim Singh as Chairman who were seconded by Shri Harsh Dev Singh, Leader of Legislature Party, Shri Yash Paul Kundal, MLA and Syed Mohd. Rafiq Shah, MLC.
Prof. Bhim Singh was elected as Chairman of JKNPP in 2001 for the first time.
