DIR: United Nation’s Children Fund (Unicef) conducted Parent Teacher Councils (PTCs) in seven union councils of the district the other day. The UCs where elections were held included Dir Urban, Gwaldai, Tarpatar, Jabar, Chukiatan, Darora and Dislwar. Project Assistant Officer (PSO), Masud, Peshawar, and District Coordinator of Unicef-funded District Education Coordination Unit (DECU) Upper Dir, Mir Mazharuddin, monitored the election process. The Unicef officials informed that more than one thousand parents took part in the elections. They elected their respective councils that would work for the promotion of education in their respective areas besides looking after development projects in schools. Hundreds of monitoring committees had been constituted to supervise the elections. These committees visited different polling stations (schools) to review the preparations for the PTC elections.
Banners were displayed outside the schools on this occasion and great hustle and bustle was witnessed during the elections. The PTC elections are being conducted from December 6 to 8 in 789 male and female primary schools. Mazhar said provincial secretary education, Shafiullah, had been taking keen interest in introducing reforms in education sector that was producing positive results.
