Paul Chehade – The United States is a democracy or an oligarchy.

Paul Chehade – The United States is a democracy or an oligarchy.

America’s political system has transformed from a democracy into an oligarchy, where power is wielded by wealthy elites.

Our forefathers created a Constitutional Republic, intended to be based on the Roman Republic- but the system has clearly changed. It has been corrupted by money and people by vested interests and has become more and more like an oligarchy.

The U.S. government does not represent the interests of the majority of the country’s citizens, but is instead ruled by those of the rich and powerful.

Today  big money controlled elections by other means:

Running for office became expensive, so that those who seek office require wealthy sponsors to whom they are then beholden.

The great majority of voters have little independent knowledge of those for whom they vote or of the issues to be dealt with.  Their judgments are, accordingly, dependent on what they learn from the mass media.  These media, in turn, are controlled by moneyed interests,  and freedom of the press was really just freedom of rich elite to control the news.

US government policies rarely align with the preferences of the majority of Americans, but do favor special interests and lobbying organizations.

The political system as a payoff to major contributors, who want and expect and sometimes get favors for themselves after the election’s over.

Republicans and Democrats look upon this unlimited money as a great benefit to themselves.  Somebody who’s already in Congress has a lot more to sell to an avid contributor than somebody who’s just a challenger

The United States is an oligarchy, no democratic country, at all. American democracy is a pretense. Because the US government does not represent the interests of the majority of the country’s citizens, but is instead ruled by those of the rich and powerful.

It violates the essence of what made America a great country in its political system.

God Bless America.

What is required is to return to the old fashion principles on morality, ethics based on respect to all living creature. Being ethical is not the same as doing "whatever society accepts." Being ethical is to follow the rules that respect the human right and integrity. An entire society can become ethically corrupt. Discrimination is a good example of a morally corrupt society. A reform to our values back to basics will provide the standards to a moral and righteous behavior. Education is an avenue. Religious principles of love are also valid. God must prevail in our schools our daily life and our families. The family is the basis of our society and the future of our children therefore of our nation. God Bless America.
