PayPal leads a cleanliness drive along Old Mahabalipuram Road!

· Employees of PayPal along with the Chennai Corporation got down to clean up a 2km stretch on Rajiv Gandhi Salai (OMR)on Wednesday, 7th of November 2012.
Chennai, November 7, 2012: More than 500 employees of PayPal embarked on a mission today, to keep the 2km stretch extending from Sholinganallur to Karapakkam on OMR, clean. The team of volunteers headed out to the earmarked stretch on Sholinganallur, OMR, for the cleanliness drive, performing different roles such as picking up trash from the roads and distributing free bins to shops and establishments to prevent future littering along the stretch.
The two-hour super cleanliness drive emphasized the importance of cleanliness and spread awareness among the local shop-keepers on keeping their surrounding clean and litter free.
AnupamPahuja, General Manager, PayPal India, emphasized that this initiative is PayPal’s way of exhibiting support for the Corporation of Chennai which is doing a splendid job of rapidly cleaning up the city post Neelam. He said, “PayPal employees wished to give back to society, and this was the perfect way to show our support for the civic body at this point in time. PayPal is also organizing a series of fund-raising activities that can go towards the betterment of society”.
This initiative ties in with eBay-PayPal’s global and local efforts to do their bit for society. The GIVE and Green teams are an integral part of the eBay community ensuring that eBay and PayPal do their little bits which are adding up to make a huge impact. The 23 teams in 12 countries are involved in charitable efforts such as grantmaking, volunteerism and fundraising. Since its inception in 2008, the teams have made 500 grants totaling over $2.1 million to non-profit organizations.
PayPal alsorecently celebrated the Joy of Giving Week between Sept 29 and Oct 10 when GIVE teams travelled to Yelagiri to support the talented children of schools sustained by SODEWS (Society for the Development of Economically Weaker Section). It was complete with drawing and singing competitions to encourage the little tots, an organ donation camp to generate awareness which resulted in 50 employees pledging to donate their organs. Employees joined hands to collect stationery and sports goods worth Rs. 40,000; they also contributed to sales of art made by Autistic children. The week was also marked by the tree plant drive, the donation of lab equipment, setting up of a biogas plant and fun activities like origami. The NGO Action Aid’s camp to lobby support for the education of other under-privileged kids was the perfect finish to a week that gave everyone joy among other things.
