PDP always chooses to be part of problem instead of solution:Omar

Srinagar, January 06 (Scoop News) –     Taking a dig on the agitational politics of PDP, the Chief Minister Omar Abdulla today said that the party always chooses to be part of the problem instead of being part of the solution. “Those who mislead people on the issue of power supply have done nothing during their 3 years of Chief Ministership on this count”, he said and referred to the dozens of measures taken by his Government to generate indigenous power.

Addressing a largely attended public meeting at Amard, Ashmuqam in Anantnag district after laying foundation of two bridges on Nallah Ladder, Omar Abdulla said,   “We have started ambitious power projects as joint ventures and constituted Chinab Valley power projects company for execution of 1000 mega watt Pakaldull, 600 mega watt Kiru and 520 mega watt Kawar hydroelectric project”. Besides generating over 2120 mega watts of power from these projects equal power generation is expected from other projects under construction in the State, he added.

The Chief Minister said that the Government was committed to fulfill its promises made to the people on development front. “We are working hard in this direction and administration has been sensitized at all levels to reach out the people in every area for addressing their development needs”, he said.

Reminding the people of his sincere efforts in paving way for addressing political issues of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar said that despite fighting 2008 Assembly elections on development subject he left no stone unturned to focus on settlement of State’s political matters.

Omar impressed upon the separatist leaders to be partners in the peace and political resolution of issues in a cordial and conducive atmosphere by participating in dialogue process. “Nothing can be resolved by violence. We have witnessed a saga of 20 years of bloodshed in the past and gone through a period of disturbances during five months continuously without yielding any positive result”, he said adding that the loss of over 100 persons during the disturbances in the Valley in summer months is an unfortunate chapter.

“The development process during these months received tremendous set back and the funds earmarked for upgradation of health care facilities, development of roads and bridges, improvement in power sector, upgrading education etc. could not be utilized as per the schedule. Now the unfortunate period is over and we are looking towards dawning of a peaceful and prosperous era”, he said expressing the hope that the process of development will move on with accelerated pace along with dialogue for political issues.

The public gathering was also addressed by the Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, MLC Altaf Ahmad Kaloo and NC Provincial President Kashmir Ali Mohammad Dar. The speakers lauded the Chief Minister’s initiatives in giving considerable fillip to the development schemes and working for restoring peace and stability in the State.

Earlier Chief Minister laid foundation of two bridges at Amard Ashmuqam and Seer Nambal being constructed at a cost of about Rs. 12 crores. The MLA Pahalgam, Rafi Ahmad Mir was present.

The bridge at Ashmuqam is being executed by JKPCC. It will be 184 meter span connecting Ashmuqam and Saller via Baghwani. It is likely to be completed in two years at a cost of Rs. 6.72 crore.
