PDP patron Sayeed said that PDP led coalition regime has laid a foundation of mutual trust and confidence among inhabitants of different regions and sub-regions of the State. "Our government treated all regions equally but backward and ignored regions were given special attentions", he said and challenged his opponent to come with any evidence of discrimination with any regions or sub-regions during his regime.
Lambasting National Conference led coalition regime for adopting arbitrary policies in releasing developmental funds and additionalities, former Chief Minister and patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today it was only during the PDP-Congress government that equal treatment were given to all regions and sub-regions of the State.
“During the tenure of PDP-Congress coalition, all elected representatives irrespective of their party affiliations were involved in the developmental activities and equal funds were distributed in all regions and sub-regions”, Mufti said while addressing a meeting of the party card holders of Jammu urban here this afternoon. The meeting of the card holders was organized district urban unit of the party.
“During our regime Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh had sanctioned a whooping amount of Rs 24000 crore for the development of the State. Furthermore Asian Development Bank (ADB) and other institutions had also released huge developmental funds for the State”, he said, adding, “programmes like PMRSY, Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal
“Unlike present regime, our government involved local MLAs in all these programmes without any political considerations”, he said and added that PDP-Congress regime has set an example how to deliver good governance and our government treated all regions and sub regions equally".
Coming down heavily on coalition regime adopting casual approach towards problem of unemployment, the former Chief Minister said that much touted employment policy announced by the government was nothing but a cruel joke with the youth. “During our regime we recruited more than one lakh youth on government jobs but these recruitments were made in transparent manner”, he said and asserted that not even a single ineligible candidate was recruited during this whole process.
He further said that PDP –Congress regime has not carved a path of equitable development in the State but also started the reconciliation process to establish lasting peace in this region. "It was all due to our credibility that the previous NDA regime headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee and present UPA government led by Dr Manmohan Singh whole heartedly supported initiatives taken by us for restoring peace in this region", he said and especially mentioned that the historic rally of then Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee at Kashmir on 18 April 2002 when he had extended hands of friendship towards Pakistan at the time when tension was running high on borders.
"After formation of coalition regime we fulfilled these commitments and it is due to the policies being propagated by our government that situation has been changed in the State. "From Kathua to Kargil people have been peacefully living on border", the former Chief Minister said and asserted "Time is not far when Suchetgarh-Sailkote road would be opened as a trade to facilitate economic growth of the people living on both sides". He observed that this route would be proved beneficial for the people of both the regions.
Pointing towards acute shortage of ration and deteriorating power conditions, the former Chief Minister said government has to explain to the people why situation has been worsening with every passing day. “With the similar infrastructure and scale of resources at our command, there was no shortage of ration and unscheduled power cuts during PDP-Congress regime”, he said and observed prevailing situation was an example of willful neglect and failure on part of the government.
