Srinagar, May 9 (Scoop News) –Expressing grief at the death of Pakistani prisoner Sanaullah Haq, who was attacked in Kot Bhawal jail of Jammu some days back and succumbed to injuries at PGI Chandigarh this morning, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said that present government had once again brought the State in to disrepute.
In a statement issued here today, chief spokesperson of the party Naeem Akthar said that Supreme Court reprimanded on the issue is a clear indication of state government’s failure to protect Pakistani prisoner in the jail.
While expressing hope that tit for tat killing of Sarabjet Singh and Sanaullah Haq may prove a turning point in the Indo-Pak relations, Akthar said that governments and civil society of two countries must work seriously to return to civilized conduct. He observed that barbaric treatment to two prisoners has caused immense damage to the entire region. “Prison authorities are supposed to be custodian of the life and dignity of the prisoners who are lodged in the jails with Court orders with the explicit expectations of safety and security”, he said.
PDP spokesperson further said that there is a need to go over the entire scenario regarding conditions of prisoners within and outside the State. He said that human rights organisations have continuously being pointing out shortcoming of amenities provided to the prisoners. He said that there are countless complaints that Kashmiri prisoners lodged in jails outside the state have been given discriminatory treatment. This issue must allow to be focused up to ensure safety of prisoners.
