PDP fight against corruption to continue: Mehbooba

Srinagar, October 13 (Scoop News) –   Peoples Democratic party (PDP)  President Mehbooba Mufti has said though the people of the state have lost all hope of justice and fair play under the present dispensation her party would  continue to fight for their rights and restoration of a responsible and responsive administration. She was addressing a rally of women workers of the party here today before they set out for a protest against rampant corruption in the NC and the government headed by Omar Abdullah. The rally led by Senior leader Ms Asiea Naqash, Anjum Fazilli , ,  started from the party’s office and marched through main streets of Srinagar before it was intercepted by police. The protestors carried an effigy of the state government with a garland of fake notes symbolizing the rampant corruption and misgovernance under the present Chief Minister.

Mehbooba said after what had happened at the CM’s residence last week the NC stood completely exposed and no efforts by the administration to hush up the case could absolve the Abdullah family in eyes of the people of the state who are the ultimate arbiters of their fate. She said Haji Yousuf’s death had occurred in suspicious circumstances following a dispute in the illegal transactions within Abdullah family and the NC and this fact had become a permanent part of the history of the party.  “ No amount of spindoctoring  or cover-ups could wash this blackest spot on the party’s conduct under Dr Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdulah” she said. She said if Omar was interested in fighting corruption he should have at least once taken a stock of cases pending for years against his ministers and officials but he even took law into his own hands only when the account of dirty money collected for his family could not be reconciled. “Omar Abdullah can subvert the system to save his skin but wont be able to dupe the people anymore” Mehbooba said.

Mehbooba said with such corruption at the top most level for appointment as minister or an MLC how an ordinary person could expect fairness in recruitment in administration. She said this was the reason that the transparency that has been brought in by the PDP led coalition in recruitments had been completely given up.  “ It is now a fact that most of the government jobs especially those on daily wages, seasonal, casual, angawaris and others were sold  against money and other favours”,she said.

Referring to the latest hike in power terrif Mehbooba said power supply had been one of the more disastrous areas of misgovernance under Omar Abdullah. She said while since 2002 people had started recieving non stop power and getting their areas voluntarily metered the present government has reduced power supply and simultaneously increased power terrif many times during the last three years. She said entire valley is already experiencing power cuts even though winter is yet to set in making life of common man miserable. On the other hand all the commodities are getting costlier and administration is hand in glove with the unscrupulous traders and there is no check on profiteering.

Mehbooba said the even though Srinagar is fully represented by NC with all the eight MLA’s and a member of parliament, this city has borne the brunt of the insensitive nature of the Omar Abdullah government. There is no connection between the government and the people and the citizens of the Srinagar are finding them selves facing multiple problems of lack of development, unemployment and destitution. She said the youth of the state especially those of Srinagar have been targeted through police harassment  and all hopes they had pinned on the young Omar Abdullah have dashed to ground.
