Jammu, December 13, (Scoop News)- Terming on-going assembly elections as an historic opportunity to change history of Jammu and Kashmir, patron of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today said that his party was committed to bring Jammu on the map of heritage tourism.
He said that change was imminent in the State and people of the J&K were looking towards PDP to get them rid from the present inept and corrupt dispensation.
Addressing an impressive public meeting in Jammu city in support of party candidate Bharat Choudhary, Mufti said that PDP in its election manifesto has especially emphasized on Jammu city so as to develop this historical city as heritage tourism destination. “We have a comprehensive vision for developing this historic city in every sphere of life”, he assured the gathering and recalled that during his tenure as Chief Minister he had initiated many revolutionary steps for beautification of Jammu city. He availed this opportunity to highlight that parking slots as well as parks were developed in the city and adjoining localities during that tenure.
Mufti, however, regretted various ambitious projects like artificial lake and rope way were hanging in balance due to non-serious approach of the present regime.
“Give PDP a chance, we will change destiny of the people because our agenda is formulated by incorporating wishes and aspirations of the people”, he said.
Mufti said that PDP was the real voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir and this party has to play historic role in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir. He added that PDP being the most credible
and genuine regional force of J&K has to address aspirations and wishes of all regions and sub-regions of the state.
He made it a point that PDP had already played a historic role in restoring peoples’ faith in the democratic institutions in the State.
He especially mentioned that 2002 assembly elections were turning pointing in the history of the State when people of Jammu and Kashmir had realized that they can change government through their votes.
Recalling historic role played by PDP after 2002 assembly elections, Mufti said that it was all due to the over-whelming support of the then NDA government headed by Atal Behari Vajpayee that the previous PDP-led government had successfully initiated peace and development agenda in Jammu and Kashmir.
Mufti made it point to remind the people that it was only during his regime that this region was political empowered. “Before 2002 there was complained of discrimination with Jammu region but PDP government had treated all regions equally”, he said.
Mufti also promised to restore historic importance of Jammu region. “We come out with a vision document exclusively for Jammu region for the over-all development, growth and betterment of this region”, he said.
Seeking support of every section of the society to establish a new system of justice and equality in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the on going Assembly election is an historic opportunity to change destiny of the people of this State. He asked the people to avail this opportunity to carve out a new path of peace, development and progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
“If 2002 elections were turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir to restore peoples’ faith in the democratic institutions, the assembly polls are historic in the sense that it would be an opportunity to change fate of the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, Mufti said.
Observing that the just concluded Parliament elections have already set a trend for the coming assembly elections in the State, he said, “The way people of J&K have totally rejected ruling coalition in the Parliamentary polls is a clear indication that change is imminent in the State”. “Let us work together to take the campaign for change to its logical conclusion”, Mufti said while seeking support of the civil society of Jammu. He said that political and economic empowerment of all the residents of J&K is main agenda of his party. He said that PDP, with the support of the people, is committed to set up corruption free system of justice and equality in J&K.
Ex Mayor Narender Singh Raju, Satpal Sharma President J&K Awami Congress, Kartar Chand Org Secy, S Joginder Singh, Jugal Sharam Vice President INTUC, Vijaydeep Sharma, Rahul Jamwal joined PDP.
Speaking on the occasion, Yuvraj Vikramaditya Singh asked the people to strengthen hands of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed for the better future of their generation. He said that PDP has a visionary agenda to address wishes and apsiraitons of all sections of the society.
