Anantnag, November 11, (Scoop News)- Seeking a strong and decisive mandate for his party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Patron, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed today declared that his government would change the destiny of Jammu and Kashmir and its people during the next six years. He said PDP is now the only voice left in Jammu and Kashmir to represent its regional aspirations and safeguard its unique constitutional guarantees.
“Give my party a decisive mandate in the upcoming assembly elections and I assure you that with the help of God the new government headed by PDP would mark a dawn of new hope for the State,” Mufti said while addressing a massive public rally here. Mufti is seeking reelection from Anantnag assembly segment.
He said there will be decisive movement forward on political, economic and developmental fronts transforming Jammu and Kashmir into a politically stable and economically prosperous state. “My sole objective is to end the pain and miseries of the people of Jammu and Kashmir once for all and provide them a government that strives for their larger political empowerment and inclusive prosperity,” he said and added that he doesn’t believe in rhetoric and mud-slinging for political survival, but has strong faith in the fact that people value only performance and delivery.
Mufti said the winds of change are today blowing from every nook and corner of the State and in the coming days and months these are going to breathe new life into J&K’s politics and economy. “The only way forward for Jammu and Kashmir today is to elect a strong, stable and effective government which can safeguard its distinct political and economic interests,” he said.
He said the people of Jammu and Kashmir, more than ever before, are today yearning for change, not only to see the worst ever regime out, but to seek the resolution of political and economic issues that matter to them. “No wonder PDP has become the first choice of the people as it symbolizes sincerity, hope, optimism, vision and a deep commitment to equality and justice,” he said and added that the only way forward for Jammu and Kashmir today is to choose a government that has the commitment and seriousness to face-up to the challenges confronting the State.
Mufti said if elected his government would revive and speed up the revolutionary political and developmental initiatives which were kick-started in 2002 by the government headed by him. “My government would not only strive for the dignified resolution of the Kashmir issue, but would, as well, seek holistic solution of the politico-economic issues confronting Jammu and Kashmir,” he said and added his government’s priority would be to address the development deficit in crucial sectors including power, education, health, road communication, social security and employment generation.
Addressing the rally, PDP President, Ms Mehbooba Mufti complimented the PDP cadres for having successfully and effectively carried the party’s political and economic agenda to the grassroots level. She said the PDP cadres sacrificed their personal interests for the larger objective of ensuring peace and dignity for the State and its people. “It is because of the untiring efforts of the PDP cadres that their party has today become a real people’s movement across Jammu and Kashmir,” she said and added that unlike other parties PDP cadres go before the people holding their head high as, unlike NC, their party has not bartered the interests of the State for power and personal luxuries of its leaders.
She said having suffered terribly during the past six years under NC-Congress anarchist regime, the people feel that they have had enough of it and want a relied regime under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed to pull the State out of the morass and put it back on the track of peace, progress and development.
Addressing the rally, senior PDP leader Muzaffar Hussain Beigh accused the successive NC Government’s of having only brought death, destruction and darkness to the State. “NC has all along been thriving on political uncertainty and boycott politics and that’s why whenever it came to power it has promoted the both,” he said and added that whether by facilitating the secret execution of Muhammad Afzal Guru or ensuring revival of the gory era of killings, NC is again trying to play the old trick of fuelling political uncertainty to grab power.
Reminding Chief Minister Omar Abdullah of the promises made by him during 2008 Assembly elections, Beigh asked; “Where have the tall promises on Sadak, Paani, Bijli and Rozgar gone.” He said while campaigning for 2008 Assembly polls, Omar Abdullah had declared that if voted to power his government would work for providing relief to common man by slashing the prices of the essential commodities including electricity. “Besides addressing the issues of unemployment the NC would bring a sigh of relief to Aam Adami battered by soaring prices of commodities. The cost of LPG cylinders would be slashed by Rs 50 and the power tariff would also be lowered drastically besides ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to the people,” he quoted Omar having said at an election rally in Ganderbal on November 21, 2008.
