Srinagar, June 29, (Scoop News)- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president, Mehbooba Mufti, Sunday said once voted to power the PDP will specially focus on the far-flung areas of the state where fruits of development have not reached yet. She also said it would be the policy of her party to work on the quality education and skill development of local youth so that they could find it easy to get dignified employment in their own local set up.
Addressing a public meeting in Shangus of Anantanag district Mehbooba said it is saddening that the people living in the far-off areas are still suffering due to lack of basic amenities like quality health care, proper road connectivity, quality education, ration, power etc. She said the ruling coalition has brazenly ignored these areas over last more than five and a half years thus adding to the people’s miseries.
Mehbooba said the health care facilities in these areas were almost nil, and the people have to travel miles to get the treatment done and, unfortunately, funds sanctioned under various centrally sponsored schemes have either been embezzled or not utilized properly. She said the education system has received a big jolt under the ruling regime and the students have to suffer because of the lack proper teaching staff and other infrastructural facilities. Mehbooba said the bad condition of roads in the entire Valley present a sad commentary on the performance of the ruling NC-led government.
Referring to the dismal power scenario she said besides charging huge tariff from the people the government has failed in its duty to provide power to the people. She said all parts of the state are confronting with the bad power supply but the situation is worst in far-flung areas.
Reiterating the resolve of her party to address the issues of the people Mehbooba said the PDP is committed to overall development of the state and equal share to all areas, regions, sub-regions especially far-flung areas. “PDP will focus on the quality health care delivery system in the state particularly in far-flung. New hospitals will be opened and the existing facilities will be upgraded so that the people don’t face problems.,” she said adding the PDP, once voted to power, it will seriously work towards the academic excellence and skill development of the youth so that they don’t face hardships in getting meaningful and dignified employment opportunities in their own areas. “We will open new institutions of excellence in the state and will upgrade the existing facilities in our educational institutions to help the state grow,” Mehbooba said adding skill development institutions will also be opened to hone up the skills of the youth who are moderately educated.
Mehbooba said far-flung areas offer huge potential for tourism and the ruling government has miserably failed to harness the potential. She said the PDP will seriously work to get these areas on the tourism map without interfering with the environs like it had done during its brief stint in the government but the initiative didn’t take off fully due to the non-serious attitude of the NC-led government. “That will not only help in development of these areas but will go a long way in creating respectful job opportunities for the locals,” Mehbooba said.
The PDP president said the disadvantaged section of the society who haven’t received the due share of development so far will get a special attention of her party in its future scheme of things. “Special projects will be launched for their socio-economic development so that they we will be able create a modern society for themselves,” she added.
Mehbooba said PDP because of its pro-people policies has emerged as a strong alternative in the state and it earned credibility of the people through its conviction and commitment only. “People have realized that only PDP has the vision and conviction to solve their problems so they have pinned their hopes on us,” she said adding programmes and policies of the PDP are formulated after incorporating wishes and aspirations of the people particularly the youth.
Senior Party leader, Peerzada Mansoor Hussain, MLA, was present on the occasion.
