PDP’s policy is to bring in positive change in people’s lives: Mehbooba

MEHBOOBA MUFTI

Srinagar, November 12, (Scoop News)- Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) party president, Mehbooba Mufti Wednesday said areas like Bandipur which are endowed with immense natural assets and legacy of knowledge can prosper under a just and judicious system which the National Conference has always denied the people of the state.
Addressing a number of road side meetings in Bajipora, Bandipora town market and Bonkoot in Bandipur assembly constituency in North Kashmir along with the local MLA, Nizamudin Bhat, she said PDP’s sole purpose of politics is to bring in a positive change into the lives of the people and build a modern welfare state.
Mehbooba said whether alone or in coalition with the Congress or BJP by turns, the NC has always played politics of deceit and deception. But, during the past six years the coalition between Congress and their party has broken all records of mis-governance, corruption and loot of the state resources.
The PDP Chief said the political leadership of the present coalition government has brought a bad name to the entire political class as a result of their single point agenda of making themselves rich at the cost of the people and the state.
“From forest land and medicines in the hospitals to food grains, they have tried to grab everything and put on sale contracts, jobs, transfers, postings, MGNREGA, NRHM and virtually every scheme that could have helped the common man improve the standards of life,” she said and expressed concern that there are still large areas without road connectivity, electricity, drinking water and ration.
Mehbooba said it was a positive development that people had now started judging the political parties on their performance and merit. That is why; she said assessment of the performance of the NC and Congress with that of the PDP during its brief three years tenure at the head of the coalition with just 16 members in the assembly has generated a wave for change across the state.
Mehbooba said whole Bandipur district has a potential to grow into one of the most developed places of the country in view of the natural assets in the shape of forests, mountains and Wullar Lake. She said it needs a government with a vision and commitment to help the area develop into a tourist hub by harnessing the water bodies and scenic spots throughout the Bandipur district including Sonawari, Bandipur and Gurez.
Regretting that Bandipur like many other areas had become a dead end after independence because of the close of Bandipur-Gilgit corridor of the Silk Route, she said it is high on the agenda of the PDP to have this route reopened along with other traditional routes to generate opportunities of travel, trade and tourism and employment.
