Jammu,May 1 (Scoop News) -One day Shutdown was observed in Jammu city today on the call given by different political and social organisations to protest against the appointment of a non-Jammuities as Vice Chancellor of Jammu Central University.
Jammu bandh affected normal life in Jammu city as all the shops and business establishments remained closed closed and public transport was off the roads.
Police said Bandh was peaceful as there is no report of any untoward incident from any corner of the city.Inter-istrict transport services were plying normally.
The bandh call was given by the Jammu Central University Morcha (JCUM) was supported by the Jammu Provincial Peoples Forum (JPPF) — an amalgam of 32 political and non-political outfits.
Meanwhile JCUM expressed gratitude and thanked the people of Jammu for being alive and active to any anti Jammu move and said that Jammu Bandh was enough of an indication that Jammuities have vehemently denounced the anti Jammu policy of the Indian government, more particularly against the appointment of any outsider including Kashmiri as Vice-Chancellor of new Jammu Central University.
Addressing the media persons in Jammu after holding a protest rally in Jammu, JCUM leaders, after extending thanks to all social, traders, transporters, political parties, student organizations, which includes newly formed JPPF, Bar Association, Chamber of Commerce, Federation of Retailers and above all the common men of Jammu, further clarified that their demand is neither communal nor aimed against any individual but purely to protect the interests and rights of Jammuities and anybody trying to misinterpret or create confusion among masses would be viewed seriously. They further said that no outsider would be allowed to head any institution in Jammu, in future, including already existing Universities in Jammu.
JCUM leaders smells a foul play and questioned the BJP’s policy on Jammu terming it as a hollow sloganeering force, which sells the popular emotions and sentiments of people by being more rhetoric than practical on ground.
JCUM leaders who addressed the press conference includes Rajinder Jamwal(PRM), Prof. Varender Gupta(JSM), Udey Chand(DPP), Kuldeep Chib(JJSF), Rajeev Chuni(SOS International), Rampal Sharma(DLF), Mohinder Pal Singh Pandu (SSJAC)
President Bar Association Jammu (BAJ) Sunil Sethi told reporters here that we will not tolerate any decision to be thrusted by Union Government on Jammuites at the behest of Kashmiri leaders. Maintaining that Kashmiri Pandits are part and parcel of Jammu who have played a remarkable role in Amarnath land row agitation and other patriotic movements, he said, the Forum is not against the community but against the appointment of Prof Amitabh Mattoo who has a close association with separatists and pro-Pak elements. He said Prof Mattoo is not acceptable to us and a Jammu academician should be appointed as VC of Central University.
