Pennsylvania Man Charged With Stealing More Than $350,000 Worth Of Human Skin

In a report by the Associated Press today I read a disgusting story about a Pennsylvania man who was charged with stealing more than $350,000 worth of human skin and this took place over a period of several years.

In my opinion this is a horrendous act and a disgrace to our society and it stoops to a level of insanity. I cannot imagine not allowing the dead to rest in peace but fifty-four-year-old Gary Dudek, of Wallingford, thought differently and he was arrested on Monday and charged with theft, receiving stolen property and tampering with records.

Dudek was working until September 2013 as a sales representative for a Massachusetts-based regenerative medicine firm according to authorities; and he had the authority to order skin grafts for Mercy Philadelphia Hospital.

There are Philadelphia Daily News reports stating that authorities alleged that Dudek had ordered more than 200 grafts without authorizations that the hospital had never received at a cost of $1,700 each.

The Philadelphia police stated they do not know what has happened to the grafts.

Eugene Tinari, Defense attorney, tells WCAU-TV that the case needs to be handled as a civil matter, calling the criminal charges “draconian.”

In my opinion there should be strict controls and authorization paperwork established before any human body parts are released to anyone. I must ask, “How can 200 grafts without authorization” be released to an individual for use?

There’s certainly something wrong with this picture and it’s my personal opinion this requires further investigation because each person has family members and they should be notified and prior approval given before any body part is used of their family member or if the person is a legal human donor, the parties who have been given the responsibility should maintain that proper documentation is intact for releasing the body part.
