Pension scheme for Jammu orphaned/abandoned children soon on the pattern of MCD Delhi

 
Jammu India, February 20 (Scoop News) – Calling upon Mayor Kavinder Gupta to extend a helping hand to abandoned and orphaned children on the pattern of  Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD)  Secretary, Damodhar Satri Udyog Sanstha(DSUS),Mrs.Sunita Chandra on Saturday, requested him to formulate a similar scheme and replicate the MCD model for poor orphan children  in Jammu in order to improve their lot as well.

At present, Municipal Corporation of Delhi is providing monetary support of Rs 1000 per month as pension to each orphaned/abandoned children apart from imparting them elementary education in corporation run schools.

Emphasising on the need to extend monetary help to these children,Sunita Chandra urged Mayor  to take up the issue of orphaned/abandoned
children on priority basis during a simple function.She said "large number of street/underprivileged and orphan children face many hardships in life due to scarcity of resources. She said if these children are provided monetary assistance to take care of their basic expenses they would grow as
responsible citizens and  would not commit petty crimes or do menial jobs to earn their livelihood.They would lead a healthy life and do not fall prey to bad habits, she said addressing a small gathering of students of project PAHL in the presence of Mayor Kavinder Gupta.

Suggesting simple ways how a scheme can be worked out Mrs Chandra said before awarding monetary help to these children a local corporator  in the
municipal ward should be entrusted with the responsibility of identifying such children in his/ her area of operation and after verifying the credentials a  lump sump monetary help should be extended to such children  in order to improve their plight.She said until now,the pension scheme used to cover the physically challenged,visually impaired,widows and the eldery and pension is given by the Social Welfare Department.

After giving a patient hearing Mayor, Municipal Corporation,Jammu, Kavinder Gupta who was chief guest at a function organised by the Damodhar
Satri Udyog Sanstha in Jammu, on Saturday gave an assurance to the members of the Damodhar satri Udyog Sanstha that very soon Municipal Corporation,Jammu would launch a similar scheme after receiving state government’s nod to help needy children.

Kavinder Gupta said in the coming days he would personally take up the issue of starting a monthly pension scheme on the lines of Municipal
corporation, Delhi with the state government to ensure poor/orphaned and abandoned children also get their share from the society.

 On the occasion Mayor Kavinder Gupta also appreciated the team of project PAHL for imparting elementary education to street and under privileged children on their own without taking any help from the state government agencies.

Distributing set of clothes to children Gupta said more and more people in Jammu should come forward to help these children and open such centres of learning.Local Corporator, Sunita Kapahi also assured all possible help to the team of Project PAHL and promised study material to all the children enrolled under the program.

A total nomber of 110 students are enrolled under Project PAHL and are taking keen interest in their regular class work and have also learned social etiquettes in a short span of time. These street children are being imparted free education under the project PAHL.

Seema Bhan, Ms.Arti Jatwar and Jasmeet Singh, voulnteers of ProjectPAHL were also present on the occasion.
