Rear Adm. (lower half) Sean R. Filipowski.

The Pentagon press office today issued a release of “flag officer assignments” via the Secretary of the Navy Ray Mabus and Chief of Naval Operations Adm. Jonathan W. Greenert . It read as follows:

Filipowski will be assigned as director of warfare integration for information dominance, N2/N6F, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington, D.C.  Filipowski is currently serving as director of intelligence, U.S. Cyber Command, Fort Meade, Md” (source:  http://www.defense.gov/Releases/Release.aspx?ReleaseID=16503).

Rear Adm. Filipowski, a native of New Jersey, graduated and was commissioned in 1982 from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He subsequently graduated from the Naval War College in 1994.

Originally a submarine strategic weapons system officer, he served his initial assignment in USS Nathanael Greene (SSBN 636), followed by duty at Commander, Submarine Squadron 18. In 1987, he was re-designated as a special duty officer (cryptology), then a  information warfare officer.

Filipowski has moved lighting fast through the ranks of the U.S. Navy and is considered a “rising star” at the Pentagon.

He has been described as “scary intelligent” by men assigned to his command.
