On my desk sits a file containing a stack of newspaper clippings (about 14 inches thick) relating to some of the more strange and bizarre research projects being funded by the Pentagon.
Frankly speaking, I have no idea what to do with some of this stuff – its so far out there!
Here is one article for example, that is dealing with “neuroscience and the military” (see article : http://www.tuftsdaily.com/neuroscience-and-the-military-1.2705529#.UmKOanBJPSk , see also article: “The Dark Side of Military Funded Neuroscience http://abcnews.go.com/Health/MindMoodNews/dark-side-military-funded-neuroscience/story?id=15960496).
Neuroscience is basically the scientific study of the nervous system.
Traditionally, neuroscience has been seen as a branch of biology. However, it is much broader in scope really because it collaborates with other fields such as chemistry, computers, science, engineering, math, medicine, physics and psychology…etc.
Another article I have briefly touches on the amazing research of a man called Masahiro Kahata, a revolutionary in his field really, who has somehow figured out a way to take brain signals and turn them into computer signals (see article: http://www.seraphi.org/team.html).
Another deals with a discussion of new technology the Pentagon is funding called “Brain Machine Interface” (BMI) – the BMI connects with the soldiers brain to elicit or prompt certain conditioned responses on the battlefield (see article: http://www.popsci.com/category/tags/brain-machine-interface-0 ).
I should add that the military implications of this type of research is absolutely mind blowing, to think about.
In fact, I get chills running up and down my spine every time I do.
Here is another strange report found in the New York Post, dealing with the fact that the Pentagon is creating “telepathic troops”?
Its titled: “Future Fighting all in the head” (source: http://nypost.com/2012/04/08/future-fighting-all-in-the-head/).
Tell me that isn’t a frighting thought?
Attached to it is yet another related article called: Pentagon Plans for Telepathic Troops and they could be in the field within five years”, The Daily Mail, April 8, 2012 http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2127115/Pentagon-plans-telepathic-troops-read-minds–field-years.html).
Another article here deal with “Brain Scanning Binoculars Harness Soldiers Unconscious Mind to locate Threats” http://www.popsci.com/technology/article/2012-07/new-brain-scanning-binoculars-move-mind-melding-battle-tech-closer-deployment).
You know, sitting here reading some of this stuff I can’t help but think of all the frightening possibilities this holds in terms of the future evolution of war.
