Srinagar, December 27, (Scoop News)- Noted political activist and political science scholar, Prof Abdul Jabbar from Kunzer, Tangmarg Friday joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The party president, Mehbooba Mufti welcomed Mr Jabbar, along with his prominent supporters, into the party folds.
Speaking on the occasion Mehbooba said it was a healthy trend that intellectuals, scholars, professionals and academics are joining the party in good numbers as it is equally an open and loud acknowledgment of the party’s vision and performance both within the government and in opposition.
She said the PDP is the people’s party and it provided a structured space to dissent and opposition, which is the essence of democracy and it is the party’s vision to get the state out of present uncertainty, anarchy by involving people- having divergent political beliefs and ideologies.
“PDP believes democracy is battle of ideas and we ensured a respectable space to the opposing voices during our brief stint in the government to get the state back on tracks, but the present National Conference-led government, by its inefficiency, has reversed all those gains,” said Mehbooba adding the change in the system is inevitable and people will decide now what kind of government they will have.
Mehbooba said with the support of people PDP realised an accountable, honest and transparent system, which ensured a fair deal for every stakeholder. “We will carry forward our unfinished agenda of political resolution and economic empowerment of the people if given a decisive mandate,” adding her party can never compromise on the interests of the people and the state.
She said the state has to have a responsible and responsive govt that can cater to the needs of the people and also address the political issues that have impeded its progress
