People were asked to keep sumps and tanks clean, follow advisories of Health Deptt

Srinagar, September 27, (Scoop News)-According to Chief Engineer Public Health Department, Kashmir Division, that almost 90 percent WSS infrastructure damaged due to flood have been restored in Srinagar City. While as WSS in towns which has also suffered major blows have also been temporarily restored.
In his statement, the Chief Engineer said that the plants including Rangil, Alasteng, Nishat and Doodganga are now fully functional and water supply in all towns especially Sopore, Kupwara, Tangmarg, Pattan and Chadoora have been also restored temporarily.
He said the chlorination in Rangil, Alasteng, Nishat and Doodganga plants is done regularly on calibrated machines with high quantity of gaseous chlorine and turbidity is controlled by use of liquid alum.
The Chief Engineer also appealed the people in Srinagar and other towns especially in submerged areas to keep their sumps and tanks clean, so that effect of chlorine is sustained. He also asked the people to follow advisories of Health Department regarding use of bleaching tablets and boiling before use.
He further said that 4 Reverse Osmois Plants (ROs) received from Union Ministry of Drinking Water were installed in highly affected areas like Kursoo Rajbagh, Mehjoor Nagar and Bemina. He informed that 17 out of 20 more ROs received from government of Telengana and 6 out of 10 ROs as donation from Piramal have so for been installed in different locations of Srinagar, Sopore, Hajin, Lasjan areas and Hospitals of Srinagar.
The Chief Engineer said that in rural areas about 500 WSS out of 1450 Schemes were disrupted due to washing off intake heads, structures and submergence in Valley and the restoration of these has been going on at full pace. He informed that in all about 70% of the Schemes, water is provided though with temporary measures. He said the total restoration is expected to be completed within 10 days time.
He further informed that the total temporary/ permanent restoration of WSS worked out about Rs 165 crore at District levels.
