We are all aware of the fact that Our Lord Jesus was crucified and that while on that cross all of the sins of all mankind from Adam, and Noah on up to that day, and that he was laid in a crypt. We are also aware that on the third day, He rises up from that tomb and is seen many times, by many different people over the course of 40 days, prior to His ascending back to heaven to take his rightful seat at the right hand of the Father. Thus as true Christians, we believe.
Have you ever stopped and asked yourself what Jesus did while buried? Have you ever stopped and asked yourselves what about the dead souls from Adam upto Jesus Resurrection, do they still await for Jesus and the "Second coming"? Will they be returned to God? We tend to forget that Jesus though dead still had a special duty to carry out for Our Father, the reuniting of all who had died prior to His being crucified.
The Apostle Peter tells us in I PETER: 3: 18-21; "For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison; Which sometimes were disobedient when once the long suffering of God waited in the days of Hoah, while the ark was a-preparing wherein few that is eight souls were saved by water. The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Christ Jesus.
Here Peter is explaining to us that during Jesus time in the tomb, that indeed Jesus in his Spirit form descended into Hell or Hades and addressed all those who had died from the beginning starting with Adam all the way upto the time of His resurrection, offering them the opportunity to accept Jesus as Lord and Savior and returned those willing to heaven and to The Father.
The Apostle John tells us in the book of Revelation: 20: 1-6; that Jesus will make this visit a second time, again addressing all those who have died as unbelievers or died without knowing about God and Jesus, and offer them a chance to accept him at the time of the "Rapture". This will be the Second Coming of Christ, prior to the (seven years) great Tribulation prior to Armegeddon and the destruction of satan his followers and evil disobedience. That will be the last chance for salvation for man, dead or alive.
As I said in the beginning, we remember and believe in the fact that Jesus was crucified. We remember and believe in the fact that he arose. We believe in these as truths because we have read of them again and again in God’s Holy Word the Holy Bible, and we have been told the story again and again. But, we seldom give any thought to what Jesus did, while His earthly body lay in the grave prior to his resurrection and His ascention to our Father in Heaven.
