Four days of heavy rain, brought on by two tropical storms and seasonal monsoon conditions have softened the earth at a subdivision overlooking the town of Iba, Zambales.
Local authrites say all residents from the up to 75 homes damaged in the slide were evacuated safetly.
Video from news report on television show rivers overflowing onto a highway bridge and locals saying the area soil is loose and crubling into cakes of mud and rock that are creating problems for people in the area that a mix rural and urban center in the area.
"One bit of good news – no injuries – evacuation worked…. however 75 homes lost." local radio reorter Jun Ibanez told listeners of manila radio station DzMM.
Meanwhile, disaster teams and aid workers are attnding to the needs of about 600 people who have been mvoed into village halls in the area. While 24 hour monioring of hills and slopes considered unstable are being closely monitored by local government officails in the area.
