With the advancement in technology, magic is ought to be created online and magicians are found in software’s. Photoshop is one such miraculous software that helps in creating some powerful after effects. A picture becomes more meaningful when the graphics attached to it are even more evocative. When a shadow is added to a picture, it has the ability to give it another dimension. It not only proves to be more interactive but also visually pleasing.
One of the most sought after tools of Photoshop is the Drop Shadow. There is a default Photoshop shadow setting that helps in making the image more interactive. Whereas for those of you who want to be a little more creative, below are the three new ways in which you can make your shadow and image look far more unique and cool.
Curved drop shadow:
The first one is the curved drop shadow. A curved shadow gives a sense of space between the image and the background. The curved shadows are usually applied to the bottom of the image. The reason behind this is that it makes the picture look more natural, whereas a Photoshop shadow on the top looks weird and unnatural. Turning up the bottom corners slightly does this. The best part about choosing a curved shadow is that it looks real crisp and gives the image a more realistic look.
If you want to try it with a real shadow, take a piece of paper and place it on a surface. Now when you lift the bottom of the paper, you will find the shadow. If the paper is closer to the surface, the shadow will appear to be much clearer. As the paper is lifted, the shadow starts to blur. This is the same way in which a curved drop shadow is created.
Center curved drop shadow:
This is the shadow that is created on the center of the image with a curve. The Photoshop shadow is then formed on the top and bottom center of the picture. This again makes the image look innate and realistic. In this case, you will have to duplicate the ellipse layer that you position at the bottom and place it just above the image so it’s poking out the top and bottom to complete the effect.
This again can be tried with a real shadow. Take a piece of square shaped paper and place it on the surface. Now when you curve it upwards from the middle, you will get this type of shadow.
Standing image drop shadow:
For this effect, a cast shadow is used that gives the effect of standing to the image. This kind of Photoshop shadow is positioned behind or in front of the image on the lower part. To give your image a standing effect is simple and requires minimal time.
This can be tried by holding a piece of paper upright. When the paper is in the standing position and the light is dropped on it from the front, a rectangular shadow is created on the back. Holding the light behind the paper can also create a shadow in the front.
