While being convicted of forty-eight murders, the chessboard killer said that he had actually killed sixty-one people. The reason he is called the Bittsa maniac is because Pichushkin has committed most of the killings in over five year. They were mainly focused on Bittsa Park which is the southern part of Moscow’s suburbs.
Alexander Pichushkin is also found guilty on three charges of attempted murder. He is supposed to have his sentencing later in the week. The jury rejected a defense request to clear Pichushkin of eighteen of the murders. A life sentence for Alexander Pichushkin has been requested by the prosecution.
He didn’t deny the murders. Pichushkin said that he planned to kill sixty-four people which is one kill for each square on the chessboard.
While most of the killings took place in the last five years, Alexander Pichushkin had started the killing-spree ever since 1992. He would either drown his victims or use a hammer to bludgeon them to death according to investigators.
Most of the victims were said to be elderly men who got drunk with Pichushkin.
People who live near the park were too scared to go out even for a simple walk out of the possibility of getting killed at the hands of the Bittsa Maniac.
While there are many that want to see Pichushkin die, the Russian government had suspended the death penalty.
Before Pichushkin, there was Andrei Chikatilo who was executed in 1994. Chikatilo killed fifty-three women and children which made him the most notorious killer in Russia during the time. So far, Pichushkin is the most notorious serial killer in Russia.
