The community of Vanderbilt University was stunned by the shooting death of Assistant Anthropology Professor Pierre Colas, 32, last night. Marie Colas, Pierre’s sister, was injured but is in stable condition at Vanderbilt Medical Center.
Police are unsure why someone shot Pierre Colas and his sister at his East Nashville home. They responded to the home at around 9:20 p.m. on the night of Tuesday August 26 and found no signs of forced entry.
Pierre Colas was a German citizen and accomplished scholar of Mayan culture in Central America. He co-authored three books on the subject and had his work published in numerous articles. Marie Colas, 27, was visiting her brother from her home in Switzerland.
