Pilgrims die due to stampede at the Ratangarh temple in MP

 

 

On Sunday, a stampede at a bridge connecting to a remote Hindu temple in M.P killed at least 89 people and injured more than 100 people.

The tragedy occurred at the Ratangarh temple where nearly 150000 0 devotees had gathered to celebrate the festival of Dussehra. The temple is located in a forest on the outskirts of the town of Datia, about 390 km north of Bhopal in Madya Pradesh.

Devotees panicked when the railings on a bridge connecting broke down resulting in the stampede. Few devotees were crushed to death under the feet of fellow worshipers. Others drowned after falling or jumping into the river Sindh.

Pilgrims have died due to stampedes on earlier occasions.Stampede in February 2013 killed at least 36 Hindu devotees, who were part of the world’s biggest religious festival which was attended by some 30 million people all over the world.
