Train services on Mumbai’s suburban central line stopped after a water pipeline running along an overhead bridge fell on a local train near Thane on Friday morning. At least five people, including the driver of the train, were reported injured in the accident.
The incident took place between Thane and Kurla.
The chief public relations officer (CPRO) of Central Railway confirmed that the train driver was still stuck in the motor cabin. There were reports of many passengers also being trapped inside the affected train coaches.
According to railway sources it was Thane Municipal Corporation’s pipeline that fell on the local train.
The railway tracks were flooded following the pipe burst. A part of the bridge also collapsed and fell on the train coach. According to sources, it may take hours to clear the tracks.
