Jammu,August 6(Scoop News) – Panun Kashmir, the organastion of Kashmiri Pandits is seriously concerned about the security and wellbeing of the members of the Pandit community living in Kashmir.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, President-Panun Kashmir, while addressing the meeting, said that there is a visible sense of disquiet amongst the Kashmiri Pandits in Kashmir consequent upon their receiving threatening letters asking them to leave or face dire consequences. He said that it is a sorry state of affairs that the government has been seen wanting in ensuring their safety and security. It was the duty of the government to take necessary measures so as to instill a sense of security amongst the community members. The incident of this nature and magnitude explains various dimensions of the security environment for the minorities in the valley. It is ironical that the members of the miniscule Pandit community in the valley had to contact and "seek protection" from the separatist leaders. The Panun Kashmir urges the government to take all necessary measures keeping in view the deteriorating security scenario.
Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo was addressing a meeting of Executive Council today at Jammu. Virender Raina, National Spokesperson, Upinder Kaul, General Secretary, J.L.Kaul, Vice President, Kamal Bagati, Organising Secretary, N.M.Gadroo, Vijay Qazi, Ramesh Kaul and Samir Bhat, convener-PK Youth attended the meeting. The meeting took stock of the current political situation especially in the context of overall worsening security scenario.
Virender Raina, National Spokesperson said that the recent report of the US administration on ‘The country report on terrorism 2011’ has categorically indicted the State of Pakistan for the abetment and support of terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. The report further states that all these terrorist organizations are functioning under the very nose of the Pakistan government. Under these circumstances, the government needs to seek iron clad guarantees from Pakistan before engaging in any kind of talks in future. Panun Kashmir has always maintained that dialogue and terrorism cannot go on simultaneously, the government, unfortunately, has not followed this principle thereby endangering the national security. The recent unearthing of an underground tunnel dug by Pakistan in the Samba sector vindicates our opinion that Pakistan will not desist from its policy of state sponsorship of terrorism against India. The government needs to seriously reconsider its engagement with Pakistan.
The participants in the meeting also expressed concern about the delay in the enhancement of the cash relief to the relief-holders who have been forced to sit on ‘dharna’ again despite assurances by the administration. Panun Kashmir expresses full support to their struggle.
