The placements of freshers into the world of I.T. has been affected by recession. The picture came into limelight when IIT’s claimed that the placements there were not upto the mark. Recently, there has been announcement by Infosys, a leading IT company, that the new freshers hiring have been kept on hold at the current point of time. The recession and then Satyam crisis has added woes to the placements as well.
"I applied for 30 companies and got shortlisted by 10. But I have not got a job as yet. I don’t want to go for higher studies and didn’t appear for CAT. So, I have to get a job. I am looking for a job in petroleum sector but many companies like Reliance, BPCL and HPCL haven’t come this time. Another problem is that companies, which were recruiting around 10 students last year, recruited around two-three this year," student from IIT Delhi said.
IIT officials say that there has been 25 to 30 per cent drop in the recruitment as compared to last year. But thankfully, the pay package has not been affected much. As of other private Engineering colleges, the situation is more worse.
