Among the gunned down kidnappers, one is a high profile criminal wanted in numerous cases of heinous crimes at different police stations of several districts, informed SSP Coordination, Qazi Jamilur Rehman.
Addressing a press conference here at Police Lines, SSP Qazi Jamil said SSP Operation Peshawar, Abdul Ghafoor Khan Afridi received an information that some kidnappers are reaching Peshawar for abduction some influential personality.
On getting information, SSP Operation ordered nakabandi at Sardar Garhi in Chamkani area on main G.T road.
During checking, the pointed Datsun pick arrived which was signaled to stop by the security officials deputed at the check post. Driver of the pick-up, instead of obeying to the order, sped up the vehicle which led to chase by Police officials.
While chasing, police officials succeeded in bursting the tyres of the vehicles by hitting it with bullet. As the pick up stopped, the kidnappers in their bid to escape from the scene opened fire at the approaching Police officials.
The security officials retaliated the fire and killed three kidnappers during the encounter while others escaped.
Among the killed kidnappers one was Ikramullah alias Meney resident of Latefey Kaley Sakhakot near Takht Bai area.
Ikramullah was wanted in 16 cases of different crimes to several police stations and was also responsible for killing of two police officials in Malakand division.
The other gunned down kidnappers are Azam, who is also the brother of Ikramullah. They are sons of Amir Badshah. The third one is Abdur Rehman son of Gulistan resident of Jalala in Malakand district.
Meanwhile, speaking on the occasion, SSP Coordination, Qazi Jamil said Police department has focused on arresting kidnappers and reducing the incidents of abduction for ransom.
He said during the last three months about 75 persons were kidnapped out of which 49 were recovered by Police while efforts are underway for safe release of remaining persons.
He said due to prompt and timely measures adopted by Police department, the incidents of kidnapping for ransom has been reduced.
