While performing duty at Bikram Chowk during morning hours, Udhay Baskar deliberately harassing the media persons for not having curfew pass and asked the cops to impose heavy fine and then allow them.
When showing photo copy of Wireless message circulated by District message where it mentioned that JK Information department identity card should be treated as curfew pass, Baskar said, “No, No…..We will not allow any media person and I am not treated this card as curfew pass, you go to any where I am not allowing anyone from media for having such cards. We have not received any wireless message from the Jammu District Development office or District Magistrate for allowing the media to cover their event and treated them as curfew pass during the curfew.”
When contacted Jammu-Kathua range DIG Shakeel Beig from Bikram Chowk also denied the wireless message circulated by DM and said, “We have not received any wireless message from the Jammu District Magistrate regarding to allow the media persons to cover their event during the curfew hours. Asking about incident for imposing of fine by DySP Baskar, Beig said, “I am on the way to Bikram Chowk and let me see the matter there. Instead of doing anything, DIG Beig only met the concerned officer (Baskar) and move towards the Tawi Bridge without listing anything from media person who has been imposed fine for not having curfew pass.”
Earlier, DIG Beig who called on the media fraternity near the Dogra Chowk to discuss for harassing two Photo journalists by police officers and assured the media persons that no police officers and concerned will not harass any media person while covering the event during the curfew hours. As per wireless message circulated by the District Magistrate, Beig also assured that media should be allowed to cover their event during the curfew in 10 police stations and their cards should be treated as curfew pass.”
