West Bengal’s ruling Left Front government was against banning the CPI (Maoist) and counter such outfits politically. Marxists of Bengal believe that it was a continuous political process to “alienate” people from the “dangerous politics” adopted by the Maoists. They also believe that it was necessary to take administrative steps to restore normal life of the people of Maoists infested areas.
On June 22,2009 the Indian Government banned the CPI-Maoist under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, calling it a terrorist
organisation. 34 organisations including CPI-Maoist ,LeT,SIMI are in the list of banned outfits.
