Boca President Pedro Pompilio announced there will be a press conference on Tuesday morning regarding the status of the rescheduling of the Argentine Superclásico this coming Sunday. Javier Castrilli, the current subsecretary in the Office of Safety in Public Spectacles with the Ministry of the Interior, mentioned that for safety reasons, he would like to see the match played at 11am local time as compared to the 4pm kickoff that is currently on the fixture.
He spoke to Pompilio as well as with River Plate president José María Aguilar about this change and other issues regarding Sunday’s clash. According to preliminary reports coming out of Argentina, Pompilio refused to change the schedule and he said that the match has to be played at 3pm local time. This would be the second time in which the match was rescheduled in the last year. When they played at the Monumental in the past Apertura, it was rescheduled to start earlier in order for Argentine television to carry the quarterfinals of the Rugby World Cup when Los Pumas were on their magical trip to third place in that sport’s biggest tournament.
This will undoubtedly be the big match in week 13 as River and Boca are in first and fourth place respectively in the Argentine Clausura. In addition to this match, they will also be fighting for spots in the quarterfinal round of the Copa Libertadores against San Lorenzo and Cruzeiro in the next two weeks.
