Srinagar/Jammu, May 15 (Scoop News) – Pooja Hali, born at Srinagar in Kashmir Valley and brought up in Haridwar and an ex-student of DPS, Ranipur, Haridwar, has brought laurels to her family and Kashmir by securing 200th rank in order of merit in the recently announced results for the Civil Services 2010.She is the second kashmiri girl who qualified Civil Services examination. First Kashmiri girl is Priyanka Dhar who qualified the civil services examination in 2008 bagging 385th position.
Pooja Hali is the daughter of Surinder Hali, who originally hailing from a village Hall in Pulwama, Kashmir is Additional General Manager in the commercial department in BHEL. Her mother, Indu Hali is a teacher with Kendriya Vidyalaya, Ranipur, Haridwar.
Pooja did her schooling from DPS Ranipur Hardwar. Later she graduated in Electrical Engineering from College of Technology GBUAT Pantnagar, Uttaranchal. Thereafter, she joined TCS, Bangalore. After serving there for two years she left the job in 2009 and started her preparation for the Civil Services examination. And in just one and a half years, she has made her family and Kashmir proud by her remarkable achievement. But the success for Pooja did not come by itself – it is a result of months of hard work and dedication.
A meritorious student and a distinction holder all through her academic carrier, Pooja attributes her success to hard work and constant encouragement from her parents. She pledged to serve the nation with distinction.
Having a good family background, Pooja from her childhood was interested to do some thing special in her career. Zealous to serve the society Pooja thought that the Civil Services was the only option to attain this objective.
Apart from being a bright, disciplined and a hard working person, Pooja is also an avid swimmer and a debater.
Pooja Hali is the niece of Justice Sunil Hali and Dr.Sushil Razdan Neurologist.
A total of 920 candidates, including 203 women, have been selected for the Civil Services, which attracts the largest number of candidates from across India.
From the Kashmir valley, Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah (Rank 180), Gulzar Ahmad Wani (Rank 341) and Abid Hussain Sadiq Bhat (Rank 585) made it to the coveted list of selected candidates in their maiden attempt.
Mir Umair from central Kashmir’s Budgam district is another Kashmiri youth who has qualified the Civil Services examination 2009.
Pertinently, five other Kashmiris who qualified the civil services examination-2008 and 2009 include Imtiyaz Parray, Priyanka Dhar ,Dr Shah Faesal, Dr Showkat Ahmad Parray and Rayees Ahmad Bhat.
A First Kashmiri girl, Priyanka Dhar qualified the civil services examination in 2008 bagging 385th position. But she reappeared in 2010“to improve” her ranking. She has done B Tech, and MBA. She was recipient of Gold Medal from Governor of Sikkim in 2008.
Those having qualified for IAS/IPS from Kashmir in the past include, Motilal Kaul, HL Kadalbuju, Vijay Bakaya,S L Bhat, Atul Duloo, Rajinder Tickoo, Kuldeep Khoda and Ashok Bhan. Other Kashmiri IAS/IPS officers include Muhammad Shafi Pandith, Iqbal Khanday, Khursheed Ahmad Ganai,Asgar Samoon,Javed Geelani and Abdul Gani Mir.
Another Kashmiri Prof Amitabh Mattoo had qualified the civil services examination in 1987.
