Population Management, a Taboo in the Philippines

When China started to limit its population with the strictest enforcement the world have ever seen, the Asian giant overturned its poor status to becoming one of fast developing nation whose economy is now rising in double figures annually. In contrast, the Philippines is not bothered by its surging population just because too many groups are critical to the idea of population management. For one, pro – life advocates are noisy about anything that concern family planning. Majority of the people are always reminded that family planning outside the church laws is prohibited. In this case, the Catholic Church influence comes to the fore. Thus, government officials obey to the whims of churchmen because they’re afraid of losing their political clout every time election comes   where church leaders directly played a role. Because it’s a taboo to address population management, the Philippines will continue to battle poverty, inequality, human trafficking, slave labor, child labor, child prostitution and other social problems that this country may carry this century.
