Porto became the first European team to wrap up their respective league after beating lowly Amadora by 6-0 on Saturday. This is the fastest the Portuguese giants ever clinched a title on their home soil. Yet among their success during their three-peat, a huge cloud looms.
The Portuguese Football Federation as well as the league’s disciplinary committee is investigating and the possibility of losing six points in either this season or the next due to allegations of official bribing back in 2003-04.
Guimaraes and Benfica are enthralled in a battle for the second direct spot for the UEFA Champions League. They are being followed closely by Vitoria Setubal and Sporting Lisbon as they are all virtually assured spots for European cup play with five weeks left in the season.
